Landforms Practice Activities

Printable Class 2 Science and EVS landforms worksheets for identifying, naming, comparing and describing common natural features of the Earth.

Practice that builds confidence

What children learn

These Class 2 Science and EVS landforms practice activities help children recognise the natural shapes of the Earth’s surface, such as mountains, hills, plains, valleys, plateaus, deserts and islands. Children practise observing pictures, reading simple clues and using correct landform vocabulary.

The printable worksheets include labelling tasks, matching activities, picture-based questions, short descriptions and sorting exercises. They are designed for the Earth Science > Landforms topic, with clear visual support so children can connect classroom words to real-world places.

In this landforms collection, children build the idea that the Earth is not flat everywhere. Some places are high, some are low, some are dry, some are surrounded by water, and some are broad and level. The worksheets strengthen basic terms such as mountain, hill, plain, valley, plateau, desert, island, river bank and coast where shown in the activity.

How the practice progresses

Activities usually begin with picture recognition: children look at a landform and choose or write its name. They then move to matching clues, such as “a high land with a pointed top” or “land surrounded by water”. Later tasks ask them to compare two landforms, complete sentences and identify landforms in simple scenes. This gradual movement from seeing to naming to describing helps Class 2 learners use science vocabulary with confidence.

A simple parent routine

At home, start by reading the landform names aloud together. Ask your child to point to the picture and say one feature: “A plain is flat” or “An island has water around it.” After one worksheet, use a map, travel photo or a picture from a book and ask, “Which landform can you spot?” Keep corrections gentle: repeat the right word in a full sentence so the child hears it clearly.

Classroom uses for teachers

Teachers can use these printables for EVS revision, notebook work, small-group practice or quick checks after a landforms lesson. Picture cards from the worksheets can also become sorting prompts: high land, flat land, land near water or dry land. They work well for pair talk, where one child gives a clue and another names the landform.

Common errors to watch for

Children may call every high land a mountain, so compare mountain and hill using height and shape. They may confuse a plateau with a plain; emphasise that a plateau is high and mostly flat on top, while a plain is broad, low and flat. Island and desert can also be mixed up if children focus only on the picture colour, so ask them to look for water or dryness clues.

Why iBloom worksheets help

The pages use simple visuals, short instructions and repeated vocabulary suited to Class 2 Science and EVS. A child-friendly strategy is: “Look, name, tell one clue.” First look carefully, then say the landform name, then add one feature. This keeps the task manageable while building observation, language and Earth Science understanding.
