I Or Me Practice Activities

Class 1 vocabulary worksheets that help children choose I or me correctly in simple spoken and written sentences.

Practice that builds confidence

What the skill means

These Class 1 I or me practice activities help children understand when to use I as the person doing something and me as the person receiving an action or being spoken about. The focus is on clear, everyday sentences that young learners can read, say aloud, and complete with confidence.

The printable worksheets include fill-in-the-blank sentences, picture-based prompts, matching tasks, and short sentence correction activities. Children practise pronoun use in familiar contexts such as family, school, games, friends, and daily routines.

In Class 1 English, children often know the words I and me from conversation, but they may not yet know why one sounds right in a sentence. These worksheets build the idea gently: I is used when the child is doing the action, as in “I run” or “Riya and I play.” Me is used when the action is done to or for the child, as in “Give me the book” or “Mum called me.”

Progression in the printables

Practice begins with short sentences where the choice is easy to hear: “___ am happy” and “Come with ___.” It then moves to sentences with another person, such as “Aarav and I are reading” or “The teacher helped me.” Some activities ask children to circle the correct pronoun, while others require them to rewrite or complete the sentence. This steady progression supports both vocabulary understanding and early grammar awareness.

Parent routine at home

Read one sentence aloud and ask your child to point to who is doing the action. If the child is the doer, choose I. If someone is talking to, helping, calling, or giving something to the child, choose me. After completing a few questions, ask your child to make two oral sentences: one beginning with “I” and one ending with “me.” Keep the examples close to daily life, such as “I eat breakfast” and “Papa helps me.”

Classroom uses for teachers

Teachers can use these sheets during vocabulary practice, grammar revision, morning work, or small-group English support. A quick board warm-up works well: write two sentence frames, “___ can jump” and “Please sit near ___,” then let children vote for the correct word before starting the worksheet. The activities also suit pair work, where one child reads and the other explains the choice.

Common errors to watch for

Many children write “Me am going” because they hear me often in speech. Others write “Riya and me played” because the sentence has two people. Encourage them to test the sentence by removing the other name: “Me played” sounds wrong, so “Riya and I played” is better. Also remind children that I is always written as a capital letter.

Why iBloom worksheets help

The iBloom activities use simple sentence patterns, familiar Indian classroom and home situations, and repeated contrast between I and me. Children do not just memorise answers; they practise listening to the sentence, noticing the action, and choosing the pronoun that fits. A child-friendly strategy is: Doer says I. After action says me.

Helpful answers

Frequently asked questions

What will my Class 1 child learn from I or me worksheets?

Your child will learn to choose I when the speaker is doing the action and me when the speaker receives the action, as in “I read” and “Help me.”

Is this topic grammar or vocabulary?

It supports both. Children learn the meaning and use of two common pronouns, while also building early grammar awareness through sentence practice.

How can I explain I and me simply at home?

Use the rule: “Doer says I. After action says me.” Then give familiar examples such as “I draw” and “Didi called me.”

Why do children write “me and my friend” or “me am”?

Young children often copy spoken patterns before they understand sentence roles. Reading the sentence aloud and checking who is doing the action helps correct this.

Should Class 1 children know the terms subject and object?

They do not need to master those terms yet. It is enough for them to understand the sentence meaning and use I or me correctly in simple contexts.
